A mystery surrounds the Winne family with documented evidence that their last name was changed by the State of New York in 1800s into multiple variations outside of the original ‘Winne’. The variations discovered are Winnie, Winney, Wynne and Winn.

Part of the most substantial evidence of the name change is Winnie, Texas, which was named after Fox Winne, but was changed to Winnie for unknown reasons.

We have New York census records that show the name changing in the early to late 1800s for Winnie, Winney, Wynne and Winn. Strange indeed.
